Dante quoted Bryson to me: "How had a transparent odourless gas (hydrogen) become a system that could be aware of itself?" Indeed. Well, for one thing, it takes time. Perhaps other things as well. Like for instance paying attention, practicing respect. I like what the Dalai Lama said: "Don't become a Buddhist, we have enough. Practice Compassion and Cooperation, we do not have enough." This story is inspired by reading Bill Bryson's A Short History "one extremely pertinent quality about life on Earth: it goes extinct quite regularly....The more complex species get, the more quickly they appear to go extinct."
